This breed was first prized for its physical strength and hunting ability, but soon became equally recognized and valued for its calm demeanor, endurance and loyalty to man. A British Shorthair is always in quiet control of his or her environment, supervising everyone and everything that happens in the family. A larger sized cat that prefers to be on the ground, Brits are not known for acrobatics or speed. However, they are steadfast companions to the entire family and other pets in the house. Because of that we could tell that brits are the cat for the whole family. The brithis shorthair history goes to the 19 century. For hundreds of years the cats found in the cities and farms of the British Isles were of robust type with round eyes and faces and short, thick, water-repellent coats of all colors. In 1871 the first organized cat show took place in the Crystal Palace, and in that show Best in Show was awarde to a 14 year old female blue tabby british shorthair. After first and second world war,brithis shorthair were mix with persian cat to improve the breed. Today, those mix are forbiden. The British Shorthair is compact, well-balanced and powerful, showing good depth of body, a full broad chest, short to medium strong legs, rounded paws, tail thick at base with a rounded tip. The head is round with good width between the ears, round cheeks, firm chin, medium ears, large round and wellopened eyes, and a medium broad nose. The coat is short and very dense. Females are less massive in all respects with males having larger jowls. This breed takes a full 3-5 years to reach full maturity and development.
